In recent years, growing involvement of the Hungarian state in economic matters has caught the attention of researchers, journalists and policy-makers. The new direction is unusual in the post-socialist region dominated by laissez-faire thinking. However, under closer scrutiny, it become clear that the interventions do not tackle the issue at heart of the Hungarian developmental dilemma: the dual economy gap, caused by the absence of a strong innovative sectors in domestic ownership.
